Short answer: Miraval Arizona sells per-person packages with all meals, many classes and gratuities included: for two guests arriving November 18, 2026, its Standard Rate, which includes a $175 nightly resort credit per person, came to $2,241 a night with taxes and fees. Civana charges a room rate plus a $60 Experience Fee per guest per night that covers its 100+ weekly classes: the same night cost $729 plus $96.73 tax for two, with meals and the spa extra. Both resorts sit in the Sonoran Desert: Civana in Carefree, just outside Scottsdale, and Miraval Arizona north of Tucson, in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The real difference is how each price is built and what it covers.

Prices below are what each resort’s own booking engine showed on October 27, 2026, for two guests arriving Wednesday, November 18, 2026, for two nights; everything else is as each resort states it on its own site. We have not inspected either property in person.

What Miraval Arizona’s price covers

Miraval says: “Every stay at Miraval Resorts & Spas includes accommodations, all meals, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, wellness activities, and gratuities. Spa services, private sessions, retail, and alcohol are additional.”

How the bill is built:

• Packages are priced per person. “Package rates are per person per night,” and a 25% resort charge and taxes are added on top. The $2,241 a night for two above already includes them.
• Three packages. Simply Miraval has no resort credit. The Standard Package adds “a $175 nightly resort credit, per person”, for spa, private sessions and fee-based activities such as the Equine Experience. The Complete Package covers fee-based programs and activities, “excluding private sessions, culinary and spa”, and cost $2,734 a night for two on the same dates.
• Credits roll over during your stay, not past it. “Resort credits are per person and non-transferable,” and any left at the end of your stay are forfeited.

Miraval Arizona also asks you to plan. In its own words, “Planning is an important part of your Miraval journey”. Many signature activities and spa services “require sign-up prior to arrival”, Miraval recommends booking spa treatments four to six weeks ahead, and dinner at Cactus Flower Restaurant needs a reservation.

Devices are limited too: “personal digital device use is limited to your room and designated cell phone areas.” Miraval’s Equine Experience, created in 1996 and held at its Purple Sage Ranch, costs extra or comes out of the credit.

What Civana’s price covers

Civana’s nightly price has two parts: the room, and an Experience Fee of $60 per guest per night plus tax, which covers “full access to daily complimentary wellness programming”. On November 18, the room was $609 and the fee $120 for two, so $729 before tax.

• Classes. Civana offers “100+ complimentary fitness, personal growth and spiritual classes each week”, and some sessions cost extra. Each guest can reserve up to 2 classes a day before arrival, and a booked complimentary class you skip without cancelling by 5pm the day before costs a $15 no-show fee.
• Meals and spa. Meals are extra on the standard rate, and spa treatments carry a 22% service charge.
• The Inclusive Package. Civana also sells meals and a treatment in one price: “Food and Beverage, except alcoholic and zero proof beverages, is unlimited and service charge is included. Each guest gets one Spa treatment (up to $225) per person, per night.” For two on November 18, it cost $1,553.85 plus $84.61 tax a night.
• Phones. Civana asks guests to keep devices on silent, and offers an optional Do Not Disturb stay where, on arrival, you are invited to put your phone in a phone cocoon or turn it off.

Across eight dates we checked from November 2026 to July 2027, Civana’s standard rate for two ran from $429 to $729 a night before tax, Experience Fee included. Miraval’s booking engine showed us one date.

Does adding meals and treatments close the gap?

Not on the date we checked. With meals and a treatment a night for each guest, Civana’s Inclusive Package was $1,553.85 plus $84.61 tax for two; Miraval’s Standard Rate, with meals and a $175 credit each, was $2,241 with taxes and fees. Getting to Civana and Miraval Arizona

• Civana: Phoenix Sky Harbor is 40 minutes away. Shared transfers cost $35 each way and private ones $175 each way.
• Miraval Arizona: a free shared shuttle runs from Tucson International Airport and takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic. Miraval notes that Phoenix has more direct flights; that drive is “closer to 1 hour 45 minutes” and not included.

Who suits which

• Miraval Arizona if you want meals, many classes and tips in one per-person price, you are happy to book activities and spa weeks ahead, and you want a resort where phones stay in your room.
• Civana if you would rather pay for the parts you use, you will plan your own days around its class schedule, and you want a cheaper trip that is closer to Phoenix. It is also simpler when two people want different things: Miraval prices its packages per person, and its credits are per person and non-transferable.
